Moving the cargo

Clearance and transport are usually treated as two purchases from two suppliers, which is precisely where consignments stall: the agent finishes at release, the transporter starts at collection, and the day in between belongs to nobody. We plan the movement while the entry is being lodged, so the truck is booked against the release date rather than after it.

Sea freight

Containerised and break-bulk

Coordination with shipping lines and terminals for FCL, LCL and break-bulk consignments arriving at or departing from Dar es Salaam: booking, arrival notice, container release, free-time monitoring and gate-out.

Where a consignment is oversized or non-containerised, discharge and handling arrangements are planned with the terminal in advance.

Air freight

Time-critical consignments

Airport clearance for urgent spares, temperature-sensitive goods and shipments where a production line, a project schedule or a patient is waiting.

Air cargo attracts the same regulatory requirements as sea, but on a compressed timeline — so the document review happens against the flight schedule, not the vessel schedule.

Road transport

Port haulage and inland delivery

Container haulage from the terminal, delivery to premises in Dar es Salaam, and upcountry movement to mine sites, project locations and regional distribution points.

Vehicles are matched to the cargo — flatbed, skeletal, tipper, low-loader or covered — and the movement is tracked to proof of delivery.

Project and abnormal loads

Plant, equipment and oversized cargo

Consignments that will not fit a standard trailer or a standard process: route survey, permit coordination for abnormal dimensions or weight, escort arrangements and staged delivery to site.

These moves are planned weeks ahead, because the permit, not the truck, is usually the long pole.

Warehousing & distribution

Cargo does not always need to move immediately. Sometimes duty is better deferred, sometimes the site is not ready, and sometimes a single import needs to be broken down and distributed over weeks.

  • Bonded storage. Goods held under customs control with duty deferred until they are entered for home use — useful for stock imported ahead of demand, or for goods intended for re-export.
  • Commercial storage. Duty-paid goods held in commercial facilities pending site readiness or scheduled distribution.
  • Consolidation and deconsolidation. Multiple suppliers combined into one movement, or one container broken down for delivery to several destinations.
  • Inventory visibility. Receipt, condition and release records maintained so what is in store is always reconcilable against what was imported.

How we plan a movement

01Delivery requirement confirmedDestination, site access, offloading capability and the client’s required delivery window established at file opening.
02Equipment matched to cargoTrailer type, axle configuration and any lifting or escort requirement determined from the cargo dimensions and weight.
03Permits arrangedAbnormal load, route or municipal permits applied for where dimensions or weight require them.
04Booked against releaseTransport scheduled to the expected release date so the vehicle is at the terminal when the container is available.
05Dispatch and trackingLoading supervised, movement monitored, and delays escalated to the client rather than absorbed silently.
06Delivery and PODOffloading coordinated at destination and signed proof of delivery returned to the shipment file.
